How To Replace A Subaru Bumper Cover

If you have a bumper cover that needs to be replaced, you may be wondering if you can replace it at home. The answer is definitely yes. Replacing a Subaru bumper cover is a straightforward process, but it takes some time. A bumper cover replacement is a DIY job that brings several benefits.

No Labor Costs

repair cost

You don’t need to pay a shop $100 per hour (give or take) for labor. You do still need to pay for a replacement bumper cover and maybe a couple of tools. Yet, it’s still a lot cheaper than paying a shop to do the work for you.

The Freedom To Use OEM Parts

You don’t have to try to get your body shop to use an OEM replacement bumper cover. Body shops almost always use aftermarket replacement parts. It’s always better to use OEM parts. You would have to spend some time fighting with the body shop and/or insurance company until they agree to use an OEM replacement bumper cover.

If you take care of the replacement yourself, you have the freedom to use any replacement part you want. You can save a lot of money by shopping with us. We’re an authorized seller of genuine OEM Subaru parts. We offer wholesale pricing on all parts, including bumper covers.

If you're wondering what the process of replacing a front bumper cover is like, we put together a general overview:

  1. Pop the hood.
  2. Remove all the push pins along the top of the grille.
  3. Raise the vehicle and then remove the remaining push pins on the bottom.
  4. Remove the fog light bulbs and then set aside. There's a small plastic flap that provides easy access to the bulbs.
  5. Remove the push pins in the wheel well, only in the area where the bumper and the lining meets. Repeat in the other wheel well.
  6. Gently remove the bumper cover.
  7. Install the new bumper cover in the reverse order of removal.

The process may vary slightly between Subaru models. For example, the bumper replacement process on 2004-2007 Subaru Imprezas is a little different. On an Impreza, there are two small vents on the grille. Take those out to access the push pins holding up the bumper. You can always find a model-specific tutorial online. YouTube has plenty of them.
